Long Island City, New York September 22, 2010 - Long Island City Business Development Corportation hosted a Trucking and Commercial Fleet Services Seminar on Wednesday, September 22nd. Attendees learned about an array of services for operators of trucks and commercial fleet vehicles.  Presentations were provided by: NYC DOT; Stacey Hodge NYC Department of Finance; Roberto Roman Jr. NYC Business Solutions Transportation; Jessica Alatis Navigating the NYC Truck Route Network All trucks must use designated truck routes when driving within New York City.  Every truck should carry a map of the City’s truck route system.  A NYC Dept. of Transportation representative will describe the system, with nearly 1,000 miles of designated roadways – one of the most complex in the nation - and give out free truck route maps.  NYC DOT Off Hours Delivery Program Trucks and commercial vehicles both cause and suffer from congestion on NYC streets. Businesses that tried fewer daytime and more nighttime deliveries reported that staff wasted less time waiting for deliveries stuck in traffic. Carriers found they could make more deliveries in the same amount of time, use a smaller fleet, save money on fuel costs, and with legal parking more readily available, got fewer tickets. Drivers like it too.  Find out how to participate. Reduce Costs of Parking Tickets with NYC Delivery Solutions The Fleet Program, a free service of NYC Department of Finance, helps companies keep track of each parking ticket issued to any of their vehicles with plates registered in the program.  Eligible participants in the Fleet Stipulated Fine or Commercial Abatement Programs agree to waive the right to contest parking tickets and either pay reduced parking fines or nothing at all. Instead of hiring someone to track down or fight your tickets, save money and time by signing up with the Fleet Program. There is no charge to enroll.  One HVAC contractor in LIC told us that he saved $30,000 in parking tickets last year because of the program!
