Tony Mazzarella and The Waterfront Crabhouse have played a leadership role in history of Long Island City, Queens, Queens Boxing, and Ring 8 for 35 years.
At the Veteran Boxers Association Ring 8 meeting on December 19, Melvina Lathan, New York State Athletics Commissioner, announced the appointment of Tony Mazzarella as Honorary Deputy Commissioner.
In 1982, Tony was first appointed Deputy Commissioner under Governor Mario Cuomo. In 1995, he was reconfirmed and appointed as an Inspector.
Melvina Lathan said "He is known for his integrity, his dedication, and his total unassuming charactor. He is giving and loving".
Tony is a member of the Board of Directors of Ring 8, and is an avid boxing fan. During the late 1990's and until 2006, Tony promoted Amateur boxing matches inside The Waterfront Crabhouse (on the second floor), in the parking lot / street in front of his restaurant, and in the Tennisport bubble across the street. Tony Mazzarella grew up in Maspeth. He is one of seven brothers and sisters. Awards, recognizing his various contributions to the community, are framed and placed on the walls at The Waterfront Crabhouse, along with signed photos of stars, starlettes, and boxers.
Tony and his colleagues will spearhead the formation and development of the New York Boxing Hall of Fame.
Tony Mazzarella is also Founder of The Patti Fund. The Patti Fund offers care for children with childhood cancer. It is a not-for-profit 501 (c)(3) organization dedicated to improving the quality of life and provision of care for children and adolescents with cancer. Tony Mazzarella, owner of The Waterfront Crabhouse, continues to set an LIC community example and high standard through his Patti Fund commitments and commitments to Hope Lodge in NYC.
