Long Island City, New York February 9, 2011 -
Operating in 205 countries, in hospitals and senior centers, in regions battered by natural disaster, in schools and in eyeglass recycling centers, Lions are at work, helping, leading, planning and supporting.
Lions Club is a long established global organization with 45,000 chapters, and 1.35 million members. It consists of local leaders who want "to serve" the unique needs of the communities they live in.
Its website says that:
We're also one of the most effective. We get the job done.
"We recently:
- Fed 60,000 people in a township in South Africa. It's something Lions do there every day.
- Sent a team of eye surgeons to Honduras to treat more than 100 adults and children."
Marcel Veronneau, CEO of Industrial Management & Training Institute headquartered in Long Island City, and a long time member of the Lions Club, has formed a chapter in LIC and is meeting on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month.
The LIC Lions Club has already had FOUR BLOOD DRIVES that produce 114 pints of blood.
The organization will be presenting its news, calendar, and information at OurLIC and on a future website at LICLions.org
OurLIC met with several of the members of this new Chapter, and interviewed Marcel Veronneau. A video of the interview is presented with this article.
