Long Island City, New York April 7, 2011 -

The regular monthly meeting of Community Board #2 met at Sunnyside Community Center on Thursday April 7, 2011.

After considerable discussion, Community Board #2 rejected a request by the developers of Gotham Center to amend a requirement that was imposed at the time their application was approved requiring them to include 1,050 indoor parking spaces.

The developer, with the support of NYC Planning and NYCEDC proposed to reduce the amount of spaces to 550.

In addition to the agenda items,and presentations by members of the community about neighborhood issues in Sunnyside, Hunters Point, and Woodside, Mike DanBekker, Member of the NYS Assembly, District 34th spoke to the group about the impact of the new State budget.

THIS EQUIPMENT USED DURING THE FIRST 24 HOURS OF A “WORLD TRADE CENTER” TYPE EMERGENCY. THE PARCEL IS CURRENTLY BEING USED BY THE FIRE DEPT FOR BACKUP MANHATTAN RADIO TRANSMITTER. THE PROPOSED ACTION REQUIRES CITY PLANNING COMMISSION APPROVAL FOR SITE SELECTION FOR A PUBLIC FACILITY, AND REVIEW.

  • GOTHAM CENTER (110225 PPQ) LOCATED AT 28-10 QUEENS PLAZA SOUTH, JACKSON AVENUE, 42ND ROAD AND 28TH STREET. DEPARTMENT OF CITYWIDE ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES (DCAS) PROPOSES AN AMENDMENT TO THE REQUIREMENT IMPOSED WHEN THE DISPOSITION OF THE CITY-OWNED PROPERTY (BLOCK 420) WAS APPROVED BY THE NYC COUNCIL ON JULY 26, 2001 (APPLICATION NO. C 010260 PPQ) THAT REQUIRED IN THE EVENT OF FUTURE DEVELOPMENT 1,150 PUBLIC PARKING SPACES SHALL BE PROVIDED ON THE PROPERTY”. THIS APPLICATION SEEKS AN AMENDMENT THAT WOULD CHANGE THE REQUIRED NUMBER OF PUBLIC PARKING SPACES TO 550.

City Planning and NYCEDC explain to the Community Board their rationale for recommending approval of developer's request to reduced number of parking spaces in garage. The Community Board voted not to approve the change in planned parking space count.
