Long Island City, NY March 9, 2012 -
It's casual. It's comfortable. It brings a welcoming and friendly Greenwich Village landmark restaurant, bar, and gathering spot to the Long Island City neighborhood which is now blossoming with new and exciting restaurants on Vernon Blvd. The food has that familiar "Corner Bistro delicious" taste that has won it "#1 NYC Burger" awards and praise for decades.
...and it is finally OPEN!
Long Island City residents and visitors poured into the new Corner Bistro all weekend to enjoy the food and the bar.
The menu is very simple and offers just a few popular items that are priced very modestly.
Bistro Burger: $8.00
Grilled Chicken Sandwich: $7.00
Grilled Cheese: $5.75
Grilled Cheese w. Bacon: $6.75
Chili Burger: $8.00
French Fries: $2.75
The Bistro Burger is served with cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and a slice of onion. It is filling and the $8.00 price is a bargain for lunch or dinner.
For many, the Corner Bistro's generous, plump and juicy burgers have been the rage in Greenwich Village, but don't miss trying a bowl of their Chili. It is a nice blend and filled with ground beef in a rich, flavorful brew. But don't stop at the Chili. You will also find that the Grilled Chicken Sandwich is tender, moist, and cooked to perfection.
Corner Bistro has a unique cooking system, using commercial equipment called a salamander. A salamander is a culinary broiler characterized by very high temperature overhead heating element. The Salamader's high temperature means less cooking time, and its design allows for better broiling and grilling, retaining more natural flavor of meats.
Because of the high temperature, cooking time and distance to the cooking trays becomes critical. Once the salamander is properly calibrated, cooking a burger to perfection is possible every time. It is understandably a little tricky getting a new salamader set up in a new restaurant. As in Manhattan, because of the salamander's high temperature, and demand for Corner Bistro burgers, orders will come out of the kitchen pretty quickly. It may, understandably, take a few days to get to full service levels, but the standard is set and the Corner Bistro is off to a great start.
The one thing that is different about the Corner Bistro in LIC is the bar. The bar here features a nice variety of draft and craft beers and ales.
Corner Bistro in LIC has a homey atmosphere. The bar stools are comfortable. It will give you the feeling that you should linger at the bar and meet some neighbors, or make new friends.
