Markly Wilson, Director, International Marketing for New York State’s Division of Tourism, to Speak at BREAKFAST FOR CHAMPIONS in Long Island City December 20th

Markly Wilson, Director, International Marketing for New York State’s Division of Tourism

Long Island City, NY December 12, 2012 -

Millions of visitors from around the globe come to New York States each year. The cornerstones  and Trademark of TOURISM for New York State is the marketing of "I LOVE NY".  New York State Tourism is a priority of the Empire State Development Corporation.

Markly Wilson, Director, International Marketing for New York State’s Division of Tourism, is responsible for generating increased international travel to the State of New York.

Markly Wilson will be a guest speaker at the BREAKFAST FOR CHAMPIONS of TOURISM being hosted by the Long Island City / Astoria Chamber of Commerce December 20th, 8:30 AM, at Court Square Place Conference Center.

The facts are simple, Greater Long Island City; including Hunters Point, Astoria, Sunnyside, Dutch Kills, and Woodside; have extraordinary attraction for visitors from around the United States, around the world, and from regional and local communities.  The next two meetings of the LIC / Astoria Chamber of Commerce will focus on an initiative to have a PLAN FOR TOURISM for the Greater Long Island City area.   The December meeting will also be a launch for the “Travel & Tourism Council of Long Island City”

Mr. Wilson was previously President of The Wilson Company, a consultancy specializing in empowering communities to assess, plan, and market their tourism resources.  This company generated strategic plans and results-oriented regional tourism promotional programs. Clients with whom strategic plans were developed have ranged from the Lakota Sioux Reservation in South Dakota, to Harlem in New York, the Government of Belize, Clinton and Warren Counties in New York, and a 14 city region of Massachusetts.

He was Director of Marketing for the Caribbean Tourism Organization for three years, after serving as United States Manager for the Tourist Board of Barbados for nine years.

Wilson has managed the New York Watchable Wildlife Program, a collaborative project between federal and state agencies, not for profit organizations and businesses.  This group published the first Wildlife Viewing Guide of New York State in 1998.

Markly Wilson, a graduate of St. Claire College in Windsor, Ontario and Adelphi University in Long Island, was on the faculty of New York University for six years where he lectured on Ecotourism.

During Governor Cuomo's planning process to develop a Strategic Plan for New York State though seven Regional Economic Development Councils, Markly played an important role.

In addition to Markly Wilson as a speaker at the BREAKFAST FOR CHAMPIONS of TOURISM,  a second VIP Speaker from NYC & Co. will make a presentation.  NYC & Co. is New York City’s official marketing, tourism and partnership organization. The not-fo-profit quasi-agency's mission is to maximize opportunities for travel and Tourism in all five boroughs of New York City, build economic prosperity and spread the dynamic image of New York City around the world. With the launch of major interactive initiatives—including nycgo.com and the Official NYC Information Center on 7th Avenue—NYC & Company becomes the ultimate resource for visitors and residents to find everything they need about what to do and see in New York City. The Speaker, Kelly Curtin, is Senior Vice President of Destination Services and Membership.

On January 17, 2013,  a Plan and "The Tourism Project for Long Island City" will be presented. There will also be a RECEPTION for New York State Senator Michael Gianaris, a Champion for TOURISM in Greater Long Island City. The meeting will be held at noon at PONTICELLO Ristorante,  itself a Mobil FIVE DIAMOND restaurant, located in the Astoria neighborhood at 46-11 Broadway,  Long Island City, NY
