Press release from The Floating Hospital:

Lions Club of Long Island City and Astoria Partners with The Floating Hospital

The Lions Club of Long Island City and Astoria has partnered with The Floating Hospital to provide van service to its Community Health Center adjacent to Queensboro Plaza.  The service will operate Mondays – Fridays with strategic pick-up locations within the greater Long Island City area.  Sean T. Granahan, Esq., President of The Floating Hospital, notes that “access to comfortable, convenient and affordable transportation helps remove a major barrier to healthcare – especially for families with young children and seniors.”  Long Island City has been designated a “Medically Underserved Area” by the Department of Health and Human Services.  This partnership will enable the poorest residents of the community to receive the benefits of primary health care.  “We are so thankful to the Lions for their enthusiasm in meeting this unique community need,” said Granahan.  “This is a wonderful first step in enhancing healthcare for LIC residents.  We hope to find new ways of partnering in the future, particularly in the area of Vision, a long-standing commitment of the Lions Club International,” said Marcel Veronneau, Lions chapter President.  Veronneau, CEO of Industrial Management & Training, and Arthur Rosenfield of OurLIC.com are spearheading this initiative on behalf of the Lions.

With over 45,000 clubs and 1.35 million members, the Lions Club is the world’s largest service club organization.  Local chapters are dedicated to “doing good” by serving the unique needs of the community with unmatched integrity and energy.  The Floating Hospital has been serving as Family Doctor to NYC’s neediest since 1866.  The organization currently provides over 85,000 patient visits annually via a network of 12 clinics throughout the boroughs.
