Long Island City, NY February 29, 2012 -
On Wednesday, February 29th, Chef/Owner Rocco Sacramone of Astoria's Trattoria L'incontro demonstrated the preparation of delicious, nutritious dishes using recipes that he and the Mount Sinai Queens Clinical Nutrition Manager, Allison Amores, agreed were both sumptuous cuisine and heart-healthy. Ms Amores is a Registered Dietitian (RD). This OurLIC article includes am exclusive VIDEO of Chef Rocco Sacramone demonstrating the preparation of Black Sea Bass in a special Tomato Sauce as well as his comments on healthy ingredients.
The evening was presented by Mount Sinai Queens and United Community Civic Association and generously supported by Central Sushi Bar and Lounge and Rocco Sacramone, chef/owner Trattoria L'incontro.
February was heart-health month. Heart disease is called public enemy #1 and claims more lives than any other cause of death worldwide. It's more important than ever for families to develop a heart-healthy lifestyle that incorporates healthy eating, the best weapon in the fight against heart disease.
With two cooking demonstrations, Rocco Sacramone showed you how delicious heart-healthy food can be.
Rocco Sacramone is an Italian native and longtime Astoria resident.
Since Rocco opened Trattoria L'incontro in 1999, the restaurant has been listed in the Michelin Guide and was recently included in the best Italian restaurant category for New York City by the Zagat Restaurant Guide. There are only eight restaurants that enjoy that distinction!
Rocco is involved in many charitable causes amongst which we learned, he donates food to local churches in Astoria. "As great a chef as he is, Rocco is an even better person," proclaimed one City Council Member.
Rocco's generosity and community activism has resulted in his receiving numerous awards including but not limited to the Community Loyalist Award, Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition and proclamations from our Council member, Assembly member and State Senator.
Mount Sinai Queens is a 235-bed community hospital located in Long Island City serving the communities of western Queens and beyond. It was purchased by The Mount Sinai Hospital in June 1999 and has a medical staff of nearly 500 physicians representing 40 medical and surgical specialties and sub-specialties.
OurLIC was at the event and presents a full video of one of the dishes being prepared by Chef Sacramone, a video conversation with him, and a conversation with Mount Sinai Queens' expert Clinical Nutrition Manager and Registered Dietitian (RD), Allison Amores.
