Long Island City, NY October 13, 2012 -
Several hundred people came to the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts on October 13th to learn about health, safety, environmental, and financial wellness. Expert, representing community resources, provided information, guidance and literature to those attending.
The goal of the day is to empower people in the community to take back responsibility for their families well being.
The way Dr. Charles Kreiger see it, "Most civic minded citizens believe that it is obvious that the health care crisis is not going to be solved in Washington."
Available information at the event included public safety from law enforcement, financial health from ALMA Bank, support for cancer victims from Shareing and Careing, information about stand-up MRI's, yoga instruction, etc.

PRESS RELEASE: Simotas Promotes a Healthy Astoria; Hosts Community Wellness Day in Astoria
Astoria, N.Y. - Assemblywoman Aravella Simotas and Dr. Charles Krieger hosted Community Wellness Day in Astoria this Saturday. The event brought together a wide array of services, information and demonstrations from community health and wellness providers. State Senator Michael Gianaris and Councilmember Jimmy Van Bramer joined hundreds of others to learn more about wellness in the community.
The free event provided vital safety information from our local fire and police officials and the New York Anti-Crime Agency provided fingerprinting ID for children and seniors. Alma Bank and Citibank provided residents with financial advice. The Department of Sanitation informed community residents on recycling. The crowd was delighted by yoga and martial arts demonstrations. Local medical providers explained their services and Shareing and Careing provided information regarding services and support for those suffering from cancer.
"I am proud to host this wonderful event for the community," Simotas said. "Nothing is more important than the health and well-being of our families, friends and neighbors and education is the key to healthier, brighter futures for all of us."
Dr. Krieger noted "The health care crisis is going to be solved in our community through education, awareness, and people making lifestyle changes."
