The new Long Island City that is emerging along the East River and through Vernon Blvd and Jackson Avenue is a remarkably enticing place to live, work, raise a family, play, and eat...right in the epicenter of New York City. It is a little behind in retail shopping convenience, but that will now come quickly as critical mass of residents is growing, and more condominiums open.
A centerpiece of the carefully planned Hunters Point / Queens West area is the New York State Gantry State Plaza Park that runs along the East River and Center Street a short walk from either the subway or the ferry landing.
The OurLIC Video of the walk through Gantry State Plaza on a quite Sunday afternoon reveals a quiet place that has still not been fully recognized for the quality of lifestyle that it offers.
Within 3 minutes and a few short steps, foodies from Manhattan, or visiting from another part of the world, can depart Grand Central Station on the 7 Subway and enjoy authentic restaurant cuisines and patios in the HOT neighborhood of the Hunters Point section of Long Island City. That short walk can also put you at the door of MoMA PS1, an internationally acclaimed museum and cultural center.
Unique new restaurants like Riverview Restaurant, Testaccio Ristorante, Madera Cuban Grill, blend, and Manducatis Rustica offer exceptional international cuisines, while restaurants like Waterfront Crabhouse serves some of the finest seafood, steaks, prime ribs, crabs, and fish stew anywhere. Hidden gardens and outdoor dining at Lounge 47, Da Gianni's, BANY, Masso, and Dominies Hoek are favorites....and just a few steps from the 7 Subway. A short walk to the East River reveals one of New York Cities best parks, Gantry State Park, with SHI Restaurant on one end and Riverview on the other. Before long, Skinny's Mexican restaurant, ALOBAR, Alewife and others will add more flavors to this growing destination community.
More than ever, visitors and home buyers/renters are learning that Long Island City is at the epicenter of New York City...and is at the heart of the transportation arteries for communting, visitors, and tourists.
