Long Island City, NY April 9, 2012 -
The Department of Education has recently proposed to close Bryant High School in Astoria, as well as Long Island City High School, located at 21st Street and Broadway in Astoria.
Local leaders have rallied and testified to express their opposition to school closures announce by the DOE. [ OurLIC NEWS: Bryant High School and Long Island City High School: Community Leaders Protest Closing and Turnaround Model ]
At a separate meeting in Hunters Point on March 8th, Community District Education Council 30 and NYC Department of Education held an Open Meeting to discuss the combined Intermediate School / High School 404 to be located at 1-50 51st Ave., Long Island City. Expected to open for school year 2013-2014.

- Essentially, Community District Education Councils are mandated by the State of New York and acts as an advisor to the Department of Education.
