Long Island City, NY June 24, 2012 - Junior DeCaprio owns Juniors Restaurant on Vernon Blvd. in Long Island City. He was born and raised in Astoria and is very active in the community. OurLIC presents a special VIDEO CONVERSATION with Junior. Junior is an antique car enthusiast, and this rare look into his life comes to you from his 1962 Buick Skylark while riding in Astoria.  Having lived in Astoria all of his life, Junior has seen the many, many changes that have come to Long Island City and Astoria.  He is extremely proud of his city and he raised his beautiful family here with his wife Kathy.  As he says in the video, he knows everyone, and everyone knows him.  His restaurant is an institution in Long Island City. It has been in operation for over 90 years, and Junior has been running it for the past 25 years.  They serve great Italian food...just like you were in Nonna's kitchen! He uses the freshest ingredients, carefully prepared, and served with well deserved pride. The Sole Oregenato is wonderful.   But that's all about the restaurant.  What is really important is Junior himself.  He is a man with an extraordinary gift and that gift is caring. He cares about people.  As they say, "he would give you the shirt off his back" well maybe not his shirt but  he would help anyone, in any way and never look for for anything in return. It's just not in his nature.  Gruff voice and all, Junior is a real gentleman with a very big heart. Junior and Junior's Restaurant are part of the lore of Long Island City. The restaurant is one of the oldest restaurants in Queens, and today offers some of the best very 'traditional' Italian food and pizza. Junior's Restaurant is a time capsule. What we wrote in the OurLIC Profile of Junior's Restaurant in 2009 is still true: Every city has one. It is an established local spot. It is usually the oldest restaurant and bar in town. This is Long Island City's. This one has been on the same corner of 46th Rd and Vernon Blvd for, what they say is, over 80 years. Some locals have loved this traditional, charming Italian restaurant for their entire lifetime. It is the kind of place that you could walk by....but don't. Inside is a mix of interesting people, delicious Italian food, plus great steaks and chops. Some people eat here every night. That's how good it is. It's definitely a gathering place where the locals and newcomers meet, mingle, and enjoy fun conversation. They also pour a generous drink. Hidden in the back, there is a private party room suitable for all type of events and occasions from Bridal Showers to the Super Bowl.
