Long Island City, NY June 25, 2012 -
Assemblywoman Catherine Nolan is proud to announce that A9895 passed the Assembly
A.9895 would require the New York City Chancellor to compile a report about the number of Temporary Classroom Units commonly known as trailers.
"TCU's do not allow for the best environment for teachers to teach and students to learn" said Assemblywoman Nolan".
The report that would be generated from the passage of this bill would begin to shed some light on exactly where and how long these TCU's have been used for classroom space. This report would also create a more public process and bring the communities as well as the stakeholders into the conversation as we look into the use of TCU's for classroom space.
"These trailers have been at some schools for several years, even decades with many of them located in Queens" said Assemblywoman Catherine Nolan.
Assemblywoman Catherine Nolan also hopes that the bill starts a conversation on how the Department plans to accelerate the elimination of these TCU's.
"Eliminating these TCU's, sooner rather than later, would go a long way in accomplishing this priority" said Assemblywoman Nolan.
