Long Island City, NY October 15, 2012 -
The Taste of Sunnyside 2012 brought an estimated 400 people to the Sunnyside Community Center where 19 neighborhood restaurants like Dazies, Bucharest Restaurant, Bliss Street Station, Murphy's Oyster Bar, Ariba Ariba, Dog and Duck, and Dee Thai offered samples of their menu items.
It was a great place for foodies who had a chance to explore restaurants that they have never visited. Others, made a path to a table where their favorite restaurant was being just plain hospitable and friendly.
The Taste of Sunnyside is sponsored by the Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce and by the Sunnyside Shines BID. The organizations presented a well organized MAP to attendees so that participants could make their way to the restaurant on another day.
Participating restaurants have locations that are primarily clusered around Queens Blvd, with four participating restaurants on Skillman Ave, and one on 48th Ave.
Foodie, and NYC City Council Member, Jimmy Van Bramer, a resident of Sunnyside; was at the event. At the request of OurLIC, Van Bramer visited the special Bucharest Restaurant table to taste the Stuffed Cabbage and Polenta. As Chair of NYC's Cultural Affairs, Libraries & International Intergroup Relations, Van Bramer is very interested in multi-cultural affairs. He is familiar with the menu of Bucharest Restaurant and it cultural importance in the community. He had been to the Bucharest Restaurant, but had not tried the Stuffed Cabbage. OurLIC, asked the Council Member to taste the Romanian Stuffed Cabbage and compare it to Irish Stuffed Cabbage. [ NYC Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer tastes the Stuffed Cabbage and says "Wow! It is delicious. This is really very good. This is terrific!" ]
Tables were heavily visited.
OurLIC was at the event and presents a full video (to be loaded) as well as photos.
