He manages the New Business Acceleration Team and NYC Business Express, the city’s online portal for business information and transactions, and facilitates adoption of business friendly changes across regulatory agencies. These changes include enabling businesses to pay fees and taxes online, enabling businesses to apply online for necessary permits and other credentials, providing readily available and easy-to-understand information about navigating government, and improving the business regulatory climate.
Previously Tokumbo was Chief of Staff to the Deputy Mayor for Economic Development, coordinating economic policy development for the Office of the Mayor and overseeing more than a dozen agencies, including those responsible for business services and workforce development, business attraction and retention, affordable housing, city planning and transportation. Prior to his roles at City Hall Tokumbo was the Chief Operating Officer at the the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), the City's vehicle for stimulating investment across industry sectors and broadening the City's tax and employment base by meeting the needs of businesses. In this role and in previous positions he led the restructuring of several divisions of the corporation, helping reshape and prepare it to address the needs of the economy following the 2008 recession. Before joining NYCEDC, Tokumbo was a management consultant for McKinsey & Company and also for Dalberg Development. Previously he was Honduras program director for an organization facilitating rural enterprise and energy development.
