Full Description: Corner Bistro Brings Greenwich Village to the Village Atmosphere of Hunters Point, Long Island City
EVERYTHING IS THE SAME!!
A Greenwich Village landmark, the Corner Bistro, located at Jane Street / West 4th / 8th Avenue has been beautifully replicated on Vernon Blvd. in Long Island City.
We first learned about the original Corner Bistro sometime before 2002 when we lived in Manhattan and became aware of the annual awards, recognition, and popularity it had acheived. We started to go there. It wasn't just the food that drew us. The celebrities, "soap stars", travelers from all over the world, mixing with the local gentry, made this spot one of the most interesting places in Manhattan, and a fun place to go. We brought friends to enjoy it...and family.
Year after year we made regular visits to the Corner Bistro. The trip was worth it, even when there was a wait. The burgers, the chili, the chili-fries were delicious. The owners were dedicated, and had something "hot".
When it was announced that Corner Bistro was opening in Long Island City, we were thrilled. The promise that this destination restaurant and gathering spot would bring the same food and village CAMARADERIE to Hunters Point was fantastic.
Since the announcement, we have been back to Corner Bistro in Manhattan a few times. There has been no change. It is still the great place we remember.
As the new location on Vernon Blvd unfolds at 47th Road, everything is the same. Walking into the new Corner Bistro is a real, live De Ja Vue experience. They have done a great job.
Same owner, Bill O'Donnell, joined by new partners Harold Wedick and Don McKnight.
Same Menu and prices.
Same butcher and food suppliers.
Right down to every detail of the renovation, everything is remarkably the same. The photos appearing with this article tell the story.
There will be a bigger beer selection. That is a natural improvement.
With a bigger kitchen they are planning deliveries and lunch specials.
The paper plates will be replaced with china, and the plastic with cutlery.. But the burgers will be exactly the same. Same fresh beef, same oven, and same exact way of making them. You will say, "that is the best burger I have ever tasted - the freshest beef, juicy and flavorful!."
The menu is limited but includes favorites like grilled cheese and tomato sandwiches, excellent chili, and grilled chicken sandwiches. Great food, great surroundings and great camaraderie ~ it is a fun place to meet your friends and enjoy yourself.
It has been a long time coming since the announcement. Seems like a hundred years of anticipation. But, you will find that it was certainly worth the wait. Visit both locations and be prepared for a break in the "ho hum" of other burgers.
We should mention that the Corner Bistro replaces another former landmark restaurant, Cassino. Cassino Restaurant was previously operated for over 50 years in the community by Sal and Grace Anzalone; and, then by his son and daughter-in-law Andrew and Rosemary. Cassino was an institution in Long Island City and its location will bring good luck and good will to Corner Bistro.
Expect Corner Bistro to open the week of March 5th, we'll see you there.
