Type of Food
Full Description: This is a comfortable new restaurant with a sexy, classic European style and atmophere that sits at the foot of the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge on 59th Street and 1st Avenue in Manhattan. It is also convenient from the very fast growing community of Long Island City.
The decor is charming and romantic, yet would easily serve the needs of business people wanting to impress a client or close an important deal over a private, delicious dinner.
It also features vast gated windows that open to the beautiful spring air on 1st Avenue.
The menu has been carefully assembled by a very talented young chef, Meny Vaknin. It offers a blend of pan-Mediterranean and pan-European dishes. It is not only imaginative but extremely tasty and quite healthy. It fulfills the restaurant's name. The menu items are welcoming and attract you with the promise to make your dining experience memorable, enjoyable...and different. Food lovers will not be disappointed.
The service is professional and matches the menu.
You can always tell a great restaurant by its bread. It is the first taste experience you have at restaurant. We have to mention Grata's wonderful bread...crusty on the outside and moist and lovely inside. It is a beautiful peasant bread served with olive oil and reduce balsamic vinegar.
On our first visit, we tried the oven roasted salmon with sticky black rice (very interesting), and braised kale with lavender essence. Delicious!
We also had Grata's very tender, grilled Black Angus steak. It is boneless, 14 oz., and perfectly prepared. It was served with crispy french fries and market greens. These two dishes will make it hard to try a different entree on our next visit.
Desserts are as creative as the rest of the menu. Try the vanilla bean panna cotta with citrus cranberry compote. There is also a delicious bomboloni. This is an Italian donut made with brioche dough, sprinkled with powdered sugar and served with strawberry balsamic and chocolate dipping sauces.
The wine list is extensive and the Sommelier is extremely knowledgeable.
For those of you visiting the United Nations, this is just a few walkable blocks north on 1st Avenue.
