Full Description: Dominie's in Astoria is modeled after the comfortable, 'in' spot located near the #7 subway stop at Vernon Blvd in Long Island City, Dominie's Hoek.
We've tracked the success of Domine's Hoek as a bar, lounge, and restaurant since 2008. It has been nothing short of amazing with great appeal...capturing the attention of TIME OUT, CBS, and others.
The owner, has a knack for attracting attractive and genuinely nice people as staff. They are extremely friendly....and the food is excellent.
We are actually pretty impressed with the details and thought that has gone into this second location. Dominie's in Astoria has been built in a location that the owner fully gutted. With the help of an architect, this new spot has details and improvements that give it the same nice mood as the Dominie's Hoek location, but also has some subtle improvements. The back bar is striking, not just a wooden back bar on a brick wall. We noticed the ceiling mounted stage lighting that is focused on an areas meant to serve as a spot for live entertainment.
Even the color scheme is taken from an artists work that hangs over the main windows in the front.
An important feature, as with Dominie's Hoek, is the display of carefully selected ART. This art has great appeal to those who gather at both locations. The owner takes the ART on display seriously, and has a great eye for truly talented, local artists and photographers. In Long Island City, this has not only earned him accolades, but the artist and entertainment community have become loyal customers.
At the Dominie's Hoek location in LIC, there are table games available for customers along with an amazing Juke Box. At this location, the table game is a beautifully appointed pool table, and the trademark Juke Box is available.

John Butera, the creator of Dominie's Hoek and Dominie's in Astoria, is a gifted entrepreneur who has taken the time to do things right from the start. He has learned well from the first location, and adapted his ideas to a new place...making it a special new addition to his own neighborhood.
We have no doubt that this new addition to 30th Street in Astoria will be equal to the successful Long Island City version.
The question is only whether Dominie's will serve the same great Anthony Grasso Hot Dogs that are served in Dominie's Hoek.
Who is Anthony Grasso??? Known for his good humor and ability to turn a whitty phrase....Best known as the good neighbor who said "Everybody loves a good hot dog".
