I rely on the experiences and a unique narrative the audience brings to my art. Even if that narrative is not immediately identified the exchange starts as the viewer becomes cognizant of a connection to the painting.
Originally studying to be a cinematographer at NYU I appropriated my visual storytelling techniques into my art. In the "fields" collection I explore impressions - be they literary, musical or travel- on my soul through color and the meditative process of painting.
"Dualities" analyses human behavior along with its causes and consequences. The newest collections to join the site in the near future are "Meanderings" and the new "Reflections" collection. I will talk more about them once they make their debut. About the creative process: My paintings are created using hundreds of layers of pigments. Various transparencies allow for the creation of depth and rhythm while the process of addition and subtraction is symbolic of our own communication and behavioral tendencies.
I work on several canvases at once and each time the process is very organic and meditative. Colors are selected instinctively allowing the subconscious to initiate the selections. My paintings are unconfined from a pre-conceived final image. Each painting develops at its own pace, independent of assumptions. They are allowed to mature, sometimes waiting for me to catch-up... History: Born in Armenia, Kristina Nazarevskaia was raised in Moscow and Addis Ababa , Ethiopia , before coming to America in 1991. From Public Relations at Biola University in California to Film and Television at Tisch School of the Arts at New York University , the artist's experiences have unified within her a profound desire for self -expression.
After nearly a decade of seeking such an outlet, her true metamorphosis came through a chance foray to Tunisia . There, she drew from the colors and compositions, sounds and smells which influence and inspire her work. Kristina began experimenting with texture and color when she returned to the United States . Captivated by the depth created through the various applications of glaze, stucco and sand, she is able to produce rich and dynamic tactile experiences. Looking at her pieces, you are given to irrepressible urges to touch the surface of her works.
