United Auto Workers Endorse Jimmy Van Bramer for City Council

SUNNYSIDE, Queens, NY May 21, 2009 -- The United Auto Workers have announced their endorsement of District 26 City Council Candidate Jimmy Van Bramer.

The United Auto Workers represent over 20,000 employees in the New York City area, including adjunct professors, writers, legal aid attorneys and paralegals, as well as numerous workers at manufacturing plants and car dealerships.

UAW Region 9A Director Bob Madore cited Van Bramer's strong commitment to his community through his exceptional work as Chief External Affairs Officer with the Queens Library, Member of Community Board 2, and as our State Committeeman to the New York Democratic Party as the reason for their choice.

"The UAW respects the many ways Jimmy Van Bramer has been an active advocate for both the 26th District and all of Queens. We’re confident he will be a city council member who is in tune and responsive to the needs of working families throughout the 26th."

Van Bramer thanked the UAW for their support, pledging to uphold the UAW's promise of social and economic justice for all working families.

"I am honored and pleased to have gained the support of the UAW for this upcoming election. I look forward to working hard on the council to ensure that all the women, men and familie s of the 26th have an independent-minded and accessible official in office who is committed to community service."

Van Bramer is seeking election in the 26th Council District of Western Queens, including the neighborhoods of Sunnyside, Woodside, Long Island City, Astoria and Maspeth, as part of the Democratic Primary to be held September 15th.
