Big Freedia is the undisputed "Queen Diva" of Bounce Music. The "Warm Up" performance by Big Freedia was a BIG Hit in the Play Yard at the Museum of Modern Art affiliate, MoMA PS1.
The countdown is almost up -- only ONE more Warm Up events left! This past Saturday, August 28, New Orleans native Big Freedia DJ Rusty Lazer, DJ Rashad, GHE20 GOTHIK, DJs, and Traxx. As usual, the music and performance went from 3-9pm.

A Surprise Look Inside Circus Warehouse. |
Trapeze and other skills for today's modern circus are trained in a warehouse located in Long Island City....on the other side of the tracks.
Running away to join the Circus isn't all that easy, but you can get professional training at Circus Warehouse by the most famous Cirus performers and trapeze artists in the world.
Circus Warehouse is Suzi Winson, Gino Farfan and Michelle Arvin. It’s the only training facility in the New York area where the circus stars come to train and teach.
With ceilings high enough to house a flying trapeze rig of classic proportion, the Warehouse has over 8000 square feet of space for practicing circus arts including trampoline, silks, lyra, cloud swing, solo trapeze and wire walking. It also houses a mirrored dance studio with a sprung floor.

New York City Council sets aside today as a Day of Service.
Hour Children is a multi-faceted family service organization that provides housing, both permanent and transitional, and a wide array of supportive services that transform the lives of women and their families involved in the criminal justice system.
The “Day of Service” is part of a citywide initiative to celebrate and honor the Mother Teresa’s life through community inspired projects.

This Saturday, August 21, Peter Zummo Ensemble and Peter Gordon & Love of Life Orchestra perform live, along with DJ sets by Glissandro 70 and Tim Sweeney " all from 3pm-9pm. Beginning at 3pm, there will also be a performance by Body & Pole in conjunction with the 2010 Young Architects Program installation, Pole Dance.

LaGuardia Community College is pleased to present the carved and painted wood sculptures of New York artist Irene Gennaro. A sculptor and carver whose art is created from an intense necessity and commitment, Gennaro’s sculptures are carved, constructed, leafed and painted with vivid color. Her technical expertise is coupled with a uniquely personal vision.

Employing the process of the early 20th century surrealists, Gennaro’s sculptures are rooted in mythological, spiritual and personal origins. Be they avian Spirit Messengers, ritualistic Ex-Votives, animal entities or Christian icons, Gennaro re-creates the visual encounters that are presented to her from the subconscious. LaGuardia’s large vitrines enable Gennaro’s sculptures to be exhibited in a manner similar to those seen in chapelsacross Europe where icons and ex-votos are displayed.

Modern Spaces opened its second Long Island City real estate office on August 24th with the help of We-are-Familia's GENOGRAM Pop-up Gallery Exhibition at Ten63 Jackson Avenue.
It presented a series of 25 one-of-a-kind keepsake boxes made from recylced and surplus materials.
We-are-Familia showcases original momentos contributed by its family of artists.
