Dough-nate to Educate - The New York Foundling and the Breadbox Cafe Cocktail Reception

Innovative "Doughstix Project" Allows Neighbors to Make Their Mark While Sponsoring Critically-Needed Tutoring Services for Children in Their Community

The New York Foundling, which has been serving the needs of vulnerable children and families in Long Island City for more than 20 years, is teaming up with a new local eatery to serve the community in a different way. The BreadBox Café is selling hundreds of personalized rolling pins " dubbed "doughstix"  that will permanently adorn its façade. Proceeds from their sale will support The Foundling's tutoring programs for youth in foster care, a population that historically falls behind their counterparts academically. The Foundling serves more than 600 children and their families in Queens through its preventive and foster care programs, and is the largest foster care provider in the City.

"We've enjoyed being a part of the resurgence of the Long Island City area," said Eyal Shuster and Moshe Mizrahi, co-owners of the BreadBox Café, and area real estate developers. "Through what we think is an innovative, visual way to engage the community, we are proud to support an organization that has been a fixture in the neighborhood for decades".

In order to learn more about The Foundling, OurLIC met with Bill Baccaglini, Executive Director, The New York Foundling at the organization's Headquarters in Manhattan.

Practical Acupuncture Opens Community Treatment Clinic in Long Island City

Lennox Morris, L.Ac., Graduate of Pacific College of Oriental Medicine, offers Community Setting Acupuncture with All Treatments on a Sliding Scale Fees from $30-$55

Lennox Morris, a licensed Acupuncturist, has opened PRACTICAL ACUPUNCTURE,  a new treatment clinic at 44-02 11th Street in Long Island City.

Based on what we saw during our two visits to the Practical Acupuncture clinic, we think Lennox Morris is going to be in great demand, and will have a successful practice in Long Island City.  Aside from his skill as an acupuncturist, and the very reasonable pricing model of" community treatments", Lennox himself is a very soft spoken man with  a sense of peacefulness and self assurance that people will like.

OurLIC has visited with Lennox twice, and had the opportunity to video the stories of three people being treated by him.  Their results as told by their testimonials are convincing and compelling.  The treatments ranged from relief of back pain, to skin rash, to a diet addiction to chocolate.
