Helen Marshall, President of the Borough of Queens, presented the State of the Borough to several hundred invited guests at the Queens College, CUNY Colden Auditorium on January 25th.
The presentation captured the essence of growth in areas of economic and cultural development for which she has become well recognized.

The Long Island City Business Development Corporation [ LICBDC ] kicked off 2011 with a an "LIC Elected Officials Breakfast" on Thurday, January 20th.
Assemblywoman Catherine Nolan, Councilmember Jimmy Van Bramer, and newly elected NY Senator Michael Gianaris addressed a group of business leaders and organization heads in the Astor Room at Kaufman Astoria Studios. Each made a short presentations, and then the group took questions and comments from the attendees.
Topics ranged from unemployment compensation issues, to fees being levied by government, to sanitation issues, and potentially discouraging bills before the City Council.

New Commercial Kitchen Incubator is Set to Officially Open Wednesday, January 19th at 4:00 PM
In October, OurLIC provided an advanced, inside look at the new QEDC business incubator in our artilce "An Inside Look at the New Entrepreneur's Incubator. QEDC opens this Facility with an Innovative Business Model". The long awaited Grand Opening is scheduled for Thursday, January 19th. We returned to have another look inside before the opening.
On the day we visited, we were lucky enough to catch Andrea Tovar on her very first day at Entrepreneur's Space. She is the entrepreneurial Founder of Bocce’s Bakery, an all natural, organic dog biscuit company.
The Queens Economic Development Corporation [ QEDC ], which has invested over $100,000 in the the incubator, says that "The Entrepreneur's Space provides a home to emerging businesses and organizations seeking offices, a commercial kitchen and/or classroom/meeting space. In addition to space, clients can receive business counseling, technical assistance and networking opportunities - all at a reasonable cost. Under long time member, Marcel Veronneau, a Lions Club has started to meet in Long Island City.
Operating in 205 countries, in hospitals and senior centers, in regions battered by natural disaster, in schools and in eyeglass recycling centers, Lions are at work, helping, leading, planning and supporting.
