Long Island City, New York March 25th - April 25th, 2010 - There is nothing like a fiancee and a pending marriage to focus a young man on his career and dreams...and bring out the best in him. So it is with Jesse Winter (33) , the Long Island City based photographer that has captured people's attention
with new photography. He has been in LIC for years, but has now had a burst of promotion that promises to turn his talents into a lucrative business.
Call it "The Missy Factor". Defined, the Missy Factor is the influence that Jesse's fiancee has had on him. (Guys...start painting your walls!)
OurLIC began interviewing Jesse at the suggestion of Tony Vaccaro, a world famous photographer and photojournalist and long time resident of Long Island City.
Tony has been coaching and helping Jesse, and told us that the new images being displayed and promoted at Jesse's show at a local frame shop, were "first class".
While Jesse is best known for his portrait photography, he had been experimenting with a new type of dramatic, panoramic "CompositeLandscape" photography that was getting attention locally and being displayed in restaurants.
We interviewed Jesse the night of his first showing of the Landscape Composites. The event was a huge success.
Jesse took a risk, and with the help of the Anzalone family contracted for some very unique space.
His first studio is a charming carriage house at 10-10 47th Rd. It is at the intersection of Vernon Blvd and promises
to be an important addition to a growing Vernon Blvd destination for visitors.
Jesse and his friends have been renovating the carriage house to be used as his Photo Studio.
For months, Jesse has been working on a series of portrait profiles of Long Island City residents. It is called "Homegrown" because it is a series about people who are residents and business owners in Long Island City. His Homegrown Show opened at La Vuelta Restaurant on April 17th. It was a smash hit. The photos will continue to be on display at La Vuelta Restaurant until the last weekend in June.
We like Jesse and his work. There was one photo we were aware of that he had taken while preparing for his Homegrown Show. It wasn't included in the show. We wanted to present it here because we think it is one of his better photographs, and uniquely captures the youth that are part of the promise of the community.

Full video coverage of Jesse Winter's interviews are available in the left column in five segments of approximately three minutes each.
Highlights:
- "CompositeLandscape" photography changed Jesse's point of view. He can look at things in 180 degrees rather than linear.
- TEN10 Studios, when finished will be a gallery and a studio. It will be work space and creative space. He will also be renting it out to other photographers for shows or work. Jesse and his friends are renovating a charming carriage house.
- TEN10 Studio officially opened when Jesse took photos of Mario for a pizza poster for Mario's Deli.
- Jesse has lived in Long Island City for seven years.
- During the photographing of Homegrown, Jesse learned that people are more open than you think. He says "You just have to respect them."
- Jesse's dream is to be inspired and to inspire others. He wants to create a space that has "good energy going" and make something memorable happen.
- Jesse credits Missy with giving him confidence and support. She pushes him forward and tells him that his work is great.
- He is reaching to reinvent himself with things like "branding"
