We are in the home stretch! More and more people are joining our campaign and we have great support in all the neighborhoods, its only a question of getting our message out so we need your help for the final push.

Running through the General Election!

The September primary is now three weeks behind us, but we’re still working hard to get our message out. I’m proud to announce that I have been endorsed this week by Senator Charles Schumer, Congressman Joe Crowley, Congressman Anthony Weiner, Borough President Helen Marshall, and the Communications Workers of America (CWA). I am thankful to have their support and encouragement going into November!

We still feel great about our victory last month but we are staying focused on the November 3rd General Election where we have a Republican opponent. We are grateful to all those who have backed us through the campaign thus far, but we have not reached the finish line yet. Let us Know your Thoughts on the New York City Budget

Dear neighbors,

We all know that this is a tough time financially for our city and our state. This year's budget is likely to be one of the leanest in recent memory, with many services and institutions on the line for potential cuts. At the same time, it is our responsibility to explore options for increasing revenue to maintain essential services and a strong city.

The City Council plays a role in negotiating the City's final budget, and before we take on that task, my colleagues in the Council's Progressive Caucus and I would like to hear what you have to say. Follow this link to make your voice heard on the choices the city should make in these tough economic times.

Your input can be a valuable part of this process, and we want you to weigh in on the options we have for making cuts and raising revenue. I hope you will join up with interested New Yorkers from around the city to fill out this survey. And once you are done, please forward the link to your friends.

SEIU Local 1199, the largest union local in the world, announced their support for my campaign for City Council today.

It gives me great pleasure to announce yet another important endorsement from our friends in labor. SEIU Local 1199, the largest union local in the world, announced their support for my campaign for City Council today.

Encompassing a broad array of healthcare workers, SEIU Local 1199 boasts 300,000 members, 200,000 of which are in the New York City area. Their mission is to improve and expand the quality of patient care, and to protect and improve the lives of their members and their families.

The union's Political Director, Kevin Finnegan, said this about our campaign: "1199 SEIU supports Jimmy Van Bramer because he believes strongly in defending quality health care, living wages, and protecting workers rights. Jimmy has been, and will continue to be, a staunch advocate for working families in the 26th District and all of New York City. We look forward to working with him in the City Council."

It may seem hard to believe, but August has arrived and we're quickly sprinting towards the September 15^th Democratic Primary.

This week I was endorsed by the Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA) and there are more events coming up with the Citizen's Union debate on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at LaGuardia Community College and a meet and greet hosted by Joe Conley at Riverview Restaurant in Long Island City at 7 p.m. on Thursday evening. Most importantly, I need everyone's help spreading the word about why I'm running for City Council. There is no better way to help me win than through face-to-face interactions with your friends and neighbors. Every night I go door-to-door in our neighborhood and I need you to join me. 40 Volunteers for Jimmy's 40th!

Can you believe it - there are just 31 days until the Democratic Primary on September 15^th!

Things are moving quickly as we enter the final month. We've just been endorsed by Council Member and Comptroller Candidate Melinda Katz, who is the only woman running for citywide office this year. We also picked up two great endorsements this week: NARAL Pro-Choice New York and the American Federation of Musicians/Local 802.

But perhaps the most exciting thing in August is still to come: my 40^th birthday on Wednesday, August 19. Please help me celebrate by being one of 40 volunteers for my 40^th! We'll meet at the campaign office at 45-18 Skillman Avenue at 5:30 p.m. and go door to door the neighborhood. Afterward, at 8:30, we'll have a birthday party with a cake and candles in the office. We are sprinting toward the campaign finish line!

The Democratic Primary is on Tuesday, September 15^th, which leaves just 15 days to make a difference and help elect me to the City Council. Now is the time when I really need your help. Our campaign is getting the word out all over the district and we need your help contacting voters: going door-to-door, making phone calls at the campaign office or phonebanking from your home.

Additionally, we are starting to fill shifts to get out the vote on Primary Day. September 15th is the single most important day of the campaign, and we need your help on this day more than any other. I know this is a big ask, but please consider taking part or all of the day off from work to volunteer. I am thrilled to add that we’ve been gaining still more endorsements: from Assemblymember Cathy Nolan, the Metropolitan Council on Housing, and Citizens Union – an influential good-government group that has named me their preferred candidate in the 26^th Council District. Citizens Union was particularly impressed with my community activism and the campaign’s focus on improving the district’s quality of life. We are about to announce another great endorsement from an elected leader shortly – so please stay tuned!

Campaigns are a lot of work – as all of our volunteers know – but the finish line is in sight and so is a new day in local politics. If you haven’t already heard, the New York Times just announced its endorsement of me this morning! This is HUGE news!

The Times was especially impressed with my decades of work in the community. Here’s what they had to say: "District 26, Queens (Sunnyside, Woodside, Long Island City, Maspeth): Two candidates dominate the contest to fill the seat being vacated by Eric Gioia. Deirdre Feerick’s energetic community service is overshadowed by her excessive loyalty to the Queens Democratic machine. James Van Bramer has done good work for the borough’s enviable library system and has the independence and energy the Council needs. We endorse Mr. Van Bramer."

I can’t overstate how important this endorsement is. Besides being the paper of record in the United States, the Times’ editorial page has prioritized so many of the issues I have worked on for decades, including campaign finance reform, public education, government accountability and health care.

Daily News Endorses Van Bramer For City Council!

Dear Supporter,

It's been a fantastic summer of campaigning, and it's quickly drawing to a close. I've put together a vast and impressive array of endorsements including The New York Times, Assemblywoman Cathy Nolan, Citizen's Union, Tenants PAC, the New York League of Conservation Voters, SEIU Local 32 BJ and so many more.

The New York Daily News endorsed me this morning, saying that “Jimmy Van Bramer is tackling the Democratic machine and is a top official of the Queens Borough Public Library, the nation's busiest.”

I'm very excited for Election Day to finally be here, but with less that 24 hours left until the polls open at 6 a.m., I need your help! This is why I am writing to ask you, just one last time, if you could possibly give us a few hours on Tuesday.

We will be staffing every poll in the district all day long and we want to make sure that we have a sizable presence at all of the poll sites. We have a lot of great volunteers signed up so far, but we need more. If you could spare some time, the shifts are as follows:

6AM - 9AM - Poll Opener
9AM - 12PM
12PM - 3PM
3PM - 6PM
6PM - 9PM - Poll Closer
