Date:
February 18, 2012
Place:
United States, Astoria, Stathakion Cultural Center, 22-51 29th St., Astoria, NY 11105
Description:

Perfectly suited for the entire family, this unique event offered with free admission will feature stage readings in English and in Greek of representative Cypriot folk stories and poems which survived over the centuries by word of mouth and which were collected and published for the first time in Engish translation in the books, "Folk Stories My Grandmother Told Me" and "Cypriot Folk Poems 900-1900AD", by the late Lucy Maroulleti, author, translator and storyteller. Unlike children's fables, these folk stories and poems revive unique aspects of the rural life of the Cypriots in older times about war heroes, love, loss of a loved one among other, while most of them reflect true events.

The event will take place at the Stathakion Cultural Center, 22-51 29th Street, Astoria, NY 11105 which is easily accessible by subway (Astoria N or Q BMT Lines - last stop Ditmars Blvd). All seats at the venue are numbered and an RSVP is preferred. To books seats email cypreco@earthlink.net or call 718-545-1151. For more information please visit, www.cyprecoofamerica.com.

This program produced by the non-profit cultural organization CYPRECO of America, Inc., is under the auspices of the Cyprus Federation of America, Inc., and it is made possible in part by Arch Capital Group (US), Inc., the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, the Cyprus Federation of America and Astoria Federal Savings Bank, Ditmars Branch in Astoria, NY.
